"Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician"

Outdoor Yoga 07/30/20

While walking through Turnure Park in White Plains, NY yesterday morning, I went way out on a limb and took a large, life-defining risk! Saw an acquaintance, Svetlana Berezhnaya (Yoga/Pilades/personal trainer), working out under the trees with her good friend Masha Maltseva. Asked Svet if she's busy giving a personal lesson. She said no so I asked if I could join in. "Sure!" Welcome to another exerpt from my Memoirs, "Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician."

So even without a Yoga mat, I hunkered down on the grass and began a wonderful workout. Mind you, we properly social distanced with more than 6 feet between us, but did not wear masks. I just couldn't resist the allure of training in Eastern martial arts once again with real people and experts to boot!

Got to tell the truth. Although I train at least once or twice every day in my apartment, I felt totally out of fighting shape that day. But as a veteran of more than 25 years in the martial arts, I knew that I would soon recapture my former skills!

Svetlana graciously and respectfully lead this old coot through the workout -- a challenging and fascinating combination of Yoga and Pilates. It felt very different from the training that I do online with my daughter Charlotte Mander and others, but that just made it more interesting. I felt so blessed to watch these two "Real Deal" women perform in a world filled with frauds from the top down. Check out the photo in the comments. At the end, they asked me if I would come down the next morning, Thu, at 10A. I told them that honestly depended on whether I could move the next day, LOL!

But after a quick shower at home, I felt the old endorphins kicking in. God how I missed that "Sitting on top of the world" feeling, although still a little worried about possibly of catching covid-19... For the first time in a while, I went to bed as a happy, contented man.

So this morning I showed up for the regular class which included the leader, Marsha, and two other women. Holy cow! I soon discovered that they had gone easy on me the previous day, LOL! But every time I felt overwhelmed, I sat down on my mat and took a short break. And before you knew it, I got back up into the swing. Don't count this BAMF out just quite yet! Feel like a million bucks and can't wait till next Tuesday evening at 6P to launch right back into it. Thank you so much Svetlana and company!

So on this endorphin pumping, Covid-19 semi-lockdown, hot sunny day, I finally feel like I got my Mojo back! Changed the strings on my Fender Precision Bass and launched into relearning the bass parts to Spirit's "Greatest Hits" album. Yeah life, "I Got a Line on You!" One <3
