"Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician"

Nina 2 07/10/20

I've loved so many women in my life. Maybe too many. But then again too much ain't enough, LOL! At some point in our relationship, Misha and I went off for a spontaneous three-day weekend in mid September to Montauk, Long Island. We took a risk. With nothing booked, we managed to find a nice hotel right on the ocean and spent our days walking the beach, visiting the local sights, eating great food, and making love. So I decided to try the same thing with Nina between Memorial Day and July 4th. Oh what a mistake! Welcome to another excerpt from my memoirs, "Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician."

On the spur of the moment, I convinced Nina to go to Montauk for a romantic 6 days. Like most everything in my life, it started off great, LOL! We left early on a Friday morning, got stuck in a lot of traffic, but managed to book two nights at the Memory Motel, where the Rolling Stones lived one summer rehearsing for their Fall tour. After spending a beautiful day on the beach, we ate at The Lobster Roll and went to bed early, falling asleep totally exhausted in each other's arms.

Woke up the next morning and went out for a delightful local breakfast. Once again spent a lovely day on the beach. I felt a little bad for Nina because due to my numerous bouts with skin cancer including Melanoma, I had to shift our two beach umbrellas every 5 minutes to keep me in the shade. Ah, the life and tribulations of a day-walker vampire! On the other hand, as much as I adore body surfing and frolicking in the waves, Nina greatly feared the water and could not swim, LOL! But we did manage to laugh and roll around a bit in the shallow end of the waves.

After a tasty seafood dinner and a very fun round of miniature golf, where Nina as usual kicked my butt, we headed back to the Memory Motel to check out the Hard Rock band booked at the club that night. The group arrived late and neither one of us really liked what we heard, so we retired to the room for a little romance. Unfortunately, we forgot to lock our door. And at the height of our passion, in an extremely inopportune moment, a couple opens the door, walks in, and asks to use the bathroom, LOL!

What the Hell! We grab the covers, point to the WC, and graciously wait for them to finish up and leave. No worries. It just allowed us to relight the fire and "Start It Up" all over again -- a couple of times... But the next morning, we had to check out and find another place to stay which proved extremely difficult. But more on that the next session.

So on this hot, humid, shirt-drenching, Covid-19 day where America continues to bask in denial, I take a few enjoyable walks in the neighborhood and learn the bass lines to The Rolling Stones's 1976 album "Back in Blue," all the while dreaming of those oh so good times in the "Memory Hotel."
