"Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician"

Misha 4 6/19/20

Evidently my "Cliffhanger" concerning Misha generated strong interest and a desire for me to "Get on with it," LOL! Truthfully speaking, thinking about her got me all "Verklempt." I needed to take a few days off and circle the wagons. But now I'm back with another excerpt from my memoir, the "Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician."

After our second kiss sealed the deal, we kept on choogling full speed ahead! But Misha always played her cards close to the vest. I don't exactly blame her. It took her a while to get up the nerve and gumption to extricate herself from her marriage to a very domineering Greek man. And those who know me will tell you I'm not shy about expressing my unsolicited opinions...

Loved getting back into the music scene after the long layoff while married, so I enlisted Misha's aid in finding new jams near her home in Norwalk, CT. Tried one out a few times and really enjoyed it, a second-story sports bar in Fairfield. So I brought Misha along next time for the ride. But when we arrived, a local high school had taken over the early evening for a reunion.

A young, good-looking, brown-haired man stood on the stage with an acoustic guitar and spoke a few humerous words before launching into "No Such Thing." The second he opened his mouth, I turned to Misha and exclaimed, "Wow, he's got it!" She nodded and smiled in total agreement. John Mayer continued to play tunes off of his soon to be released, breakout album, "Room for Squares."

He dazzled us with the finest, most original and idiosyncratic acoustic guitar work I'd seen since Leo Kottke. Frankly, he totally blew my mind! Jamming afterwards just couldn't compare to the music he'd played earlier.

So on this sacrosanct Juneteenth holiday on the reopening of NY after the pandemic, I bow my head in reverence as I, one of the few who remain in isolation, learn the bass lines on John Mayer's first major-label release, "Room for Squares. One <3
