"Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician"

Misha 2 06/11/20

I stepped into the shower this morning listening to Santana's groundbreaking 1972 album, "Caravanserai." It magically transported me back to the most breathtakingly romantic time in my life. No better record for making long, passionate, soul-replenishing love with that special someone! Welcome to another episode of my autobiography, "The Life and Times of a Moderate Musician."

We left off in 2000 with me trying to plant the game-changing, first kiss on Misha as we walked back to her car after the Thursday night Greene's Jam in Stamford, CT. It began small, but slowly picked up steam. Couldn't quite figure out if we made a connection. But I decided to play it cool and lay back. Though did take the opportunity to get her phone number.

Called her a few days later to see if she planned on making it down to the Thursday Jam next week. Affirmative! At the club, we enjoyed some nice conversation about her painting career and love for historic architecture and furniture. While walking her back to the car, I gently took hold and kissed her with all my heart! Things went better this time... I told her that even though I felt an immediate attraction, I couldn't figure out if she felt it too.. She answered by wrapping her arms around me, pulling me in close, and smooching me hard! Then saying, "What do you think now?"

Like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, my life rocketed into high gear. I had just scored a lucrative computer contracting assignment at the best firm I would ever work for -- Greenwich Capital, located 20 minutes from my apartment in White Plains. So goodbye long work commute! Turns out that Misha lived in Norwalk but worked as a clerk at the incomparably magnificant Greenwich Library, walking distance from my new job. We started meeting for romantic lunches. I had to pinch myself. Things couldn't seem to get much better...

She invited me over for dinner with her two kids, one in middle school and the other in high school. Issues reared up immediately. The older daughter had no problem with me but Ellen took an immediate dislike and made it perfectly clear that she didn't want me around. A troubled girl reacting to her mom's recent divorce. My minimal people skills did not help the situation. But the train still hurtled down the track in the right direction and I began spending joyous, non-school nights over her house.

More to come as the fairytale unwinds. So on yet another murky, humid, Covid-19 lockdown day, I immerse myself in learning the bass lines to the gorgeous "Caravanserai" Santana album. And pray that the fallout from the NY re-opening and the protests won't further delay this extreme-risk human's re-entry into society. One <3
