"Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician"

Mangled Hands 04/19/20

Over the years, I methodically and most unintentionally managed to mangle both bass-playing hands. Whether through fitness training, martial arts, numerous diseases, or chemo -- mission accomplished! So during the past three years, I've attempted to engineer a new way to play, one that allows me the speed I need and the pain I don't. I finally accomplished it by utilizing the thumb and forefinger on my right picking hand and the four fingers of my left. Hallelujah! It certainly took long enough. Special shout out to Kip Sophos and Anthony Candullo for inspiring this approach! Welcome to another excerpt from my memoirs, "Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician." B-|

I learned a great lesson from Electronic Rave music -- lock into the heart beat. It's not easy propelling the groove while trying to play each note evenly. But hey, every human being manages to get it done! ;)

As much as I love Stevie Ray Vaughan, I love his rhythm section, Double Trouble, even more! They're the trampoline that propels the star to reach the heavens! So honing my craft today, I focus on one of Vaughan's last studio records, "In Step." I dedicate the song below, "Crossfire," to Rudy Feinauer and Rick Oberson, with whom I performed it on one of my last gigs before the Plague lockdown. One <3
