"Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician"

Covid Bass Challenge 09/05/20

I recently issued a new Covid-19 bass playing challenge to myself. When the "live" music business makes a comeback and the more popular, older groups hit the road again, many of them will need a replacement bassist due to age, disability, lack of Interest, or just plain inhabiting a different astral plane! So I've taken to going through my greatest hits CDs and seeing which band repertoires I can master so as to make myself indispensable to the group, LOL! Welcome to another chapter of my memoirs, "Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician."

I face a few minor limitations... Instead of singing high harmony, I vocalize Johnny Cash low, LOL! Also, I don't shred. For me, it's all about the pocket -- the cosmic jigsaw-puzzle fit. So far, I've nailed down a number of a groups who I feel would benefit by my addition: Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Bryan Adams, ZZ Top, Steve Miller Band, Marshall Tucker, J. Geils Band, The Rascals, Grand Funk Railroad, The Cars, Beach Boys, Neil Young, Youngbloods, Jesse Colin Young, Eric Andersen , Savoy Brown. Oh yeah, and of course the Rolling Stones! And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Because every day, I pull out a new Greatest Hits CD to test the fit...

So on this incredibly perfect, Covid-19 Memorial Day reintegration Saturday, I put on the finishing touches to the bass lines of the "Lovin' Spoonful's "Greatest Hits" and dream of all my NYC young loves. Namaste Babies! One <3
