"Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician"

Adopting Zoe 05 03/20/21

Zoe abides with me eight months now since that fateful day I adopted her sight unseen on July 16, 2020 from Paws Crossed Animal Rescue, Elmsford NY -- smack dab in the middle of the Pandemic lockdown. Played out more like a clandestine drug deal than a pet rescue, LOL! See "Adopting Zoe" ( Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 ). Welcome to another episode of my memoirs, "Life and Times of a Pandemic Musician." B-|

No polished gemstone here, just my zircon-encrusted life! Guess mail order marriages do work sometimes. Though this one took a lot of time and effort. Hard to imagine two more different creatures than Zoe and me. She, an abused, abandoned/runaway street animal rescued after giving birth to a litter. Me, "The Boy in the Bubble," fighting Cancer and living in almost total Pandemic isolation in the midst of a very non-CDC compliant, Hispanic section of White Plains, NY. Early on, more than one resident here explains to me that only White people die from the Corona Virus. Many of my musician friends proclaim, "Live free or die," then come down with the disease. A lot keep it secret. More than fifteen die. :-(

I find myself alone in the middle of a brutally hot summer except for two parakeets and a feral cat deathly afraid of me. What a time to get stuck in-between girlfriends! But I vow to Zoe, "I'm gonna make you love me!" Took the words right from The Supremes/Temptations song. Very unusual thing for me as I rarely fight to win over a woman. Either she wants me or I find someone who does. But I lack that luxury here and now. ;D

In the beginning, Zoe sleeps all day. Waits until I go to bed after midnight and then runs around like a "Rock 'n Roll Woman" all night long. But I gradually begin to make progress. As she gets used to me, our hours start to overlap -- though she does still sleep a lot! Zoe stops hiding in small, dark places, such as on top of the refrigerator, and begins to hang out in the living room where I play the bass or watch TV. And most nights she pays me a "Booty Call" about three or four in the morning. Wakes me up with a meow and a head butt, jumps all over me, and demands I pet her. Then she falls asleep at my side. Hey, I can dig it! :-*

Now it's gotten to the point where she practically lives on the living room couch and follows me everywhere when not sleeping. And me, well to quote "My Fair Lady," "I've grown accustomed to her face." I work hard figuring out exactly what she does and doesn't like. You know, petting, grooming, food. Frankly, I love her to death and don't know what I'd do without her! =^_^=

Life's taken a turn for the better. Thanks to the Pandemic, I've managed to land some juicy interviews with restless, out of work Rock Stars. This Monday, I go for my second Pfizer vaccine at the Westchester County Center. My son's getting his in Brooklyn almost in tandem with me, so we can get together on my birthday April 16. In July, I finish up three years of chemo! :-))

Today's the first day of Spring and I can't wait to meet up with vaccinated friends, go on walks, and eat lunch in the parks. I foresee a long, slow, steady return to normalcy. Outdoor music gigs should soon start up and maybe I can snag a few of them. So while I play bass along to the eponymous Traffic album, I ponder "Who Knows What Tomorrow Will Bring." I pray something good! One <3
